Silke Wagner (*1968, lebt in Frankfurt/M.) widmet sich in ihren konzeptuellen Arbeiten politischen Inhalten, die sie in einen künstlerischen Kontext überführt und dabei auf unterschiedliche Medien zurückgreift. Sie lässt sich nicht auf ein bestimmtes Genre festlegen, sondern macht gerade diese Offenheit der künstlerischen Mittel zu einer für sie typischen Arbeitsweise.
Für ihren Beitrag im SYNNIKA hat Silke Wagner die Berliner Band "Art Critics Orchestra" (ACO) eingeladen unter dem Titel BELLA CIAO ein Online-Konzert zu geben, mit 11 Liedern aus unterschiedlichen Epochen, Regionen und von verschiedenen Musiker*innen. ACO ist ein Musikprojekt aus dem Kunstumfeld mit wechselnder Besetzung – aktuell mit Andreas Schlaegel, Raimar Stange und Micz Flor. Der ursprünglich als Live-Konzert geplante Auftritt wird, aufgrund der aktuellen Krise, ab dem Eröffnungsabend als Videomitschnitt auf der Webseite synnika.space zu sehen und zu hören sein.
Ein am Schaufenster des SYNNIKA und auf den Ankündigungsplakaten veröffentlichter QR-Code ermöglicht einen orts- und zeitunabhängigen Zugang zum Konzert. Der Titel der Installation BELLA CIAO verweist auf ein gleichnamiges Lied, dass zum ersten Mal 1906 dokumentiert wurde und die Arbeitsbedingungen norditalienischer Reispflückerinnen thematisiert. Als Hymne der italienischen Resistenza wurde schließlich eine Abwandlung dieses Lieds nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg weltberühmt, in einer Vielzahl von Varianten interpretiert und neu veröffentlicht. Zuletzt ging es im März 2020 erneut um die Welt als es in Italien Menschen während des Lockdowns von ihren Balkonen und Fenstern in Richtung Straße sangen.
Im Schaufenster des SYNNIKA konstruiert Silke Wagner das Wort BELLA CIAO als typografische Arbeit. Dahinter werden, einsichtig zur Straße, Siebdrucke installiert, die die von ACO performten Songtitel und -texte in visuelle Motive überführen. Die eigens für das Projekt BELLA CIAO entstandene Siebdruckserie steht als Edition zum Verkauf (Plakatansichten siehe unten). Der Erlös geht an SYNNIKA und den Community Space zur Unterstützung ihrer Arbeit im NIKA.haus.

Silke Wagner hat zwölf Plakate gestaltet die aktuell im SYNNIKA zu sehen sind. Die Plakate stehen zum Verkauf. Der Erlös geht an SYNNIKA und den Community Space im NIKA.haus, damit wir trotz der aktuellen Krise unsere öffentliche und politische Arbeit im Frankfurter Bahnhofsviertel fortsetzen können. Durch die Corona-Pandemie ist die bisherige Nutzung unserer Räume deutlich erschwert worden. Dringend notwendige Einnahmen bleiben aufgrund der Corona-Bestimmungen aus, z.B. weil Jury-Sitzungen zur Bewilligung von Fördergeldern nicht stattfinden konnten, oder weil unsere Räume für viele Gruppen nicht mehr in gewohnter Weise nutzbar sind.
Was ist der Comunity Space?
"Der Community Space dient der Vernetzung und Begegnung unterschiedlicher Communities, der Etablierung einer solidarischen Supportstruktur und der politischen Selbstorganisation verschiedener Gruppen, die das Bahnhofsviertel nutzen. Hier finden Beratungen, Gruppentreffen und öffentliche Angebote wie Veranstaltungen und Café-Nachmittage statt. [...] Getragen wird der Raum von den Gruppen Afghan Refugee Movement, Bahnhofsviertel Solidarisch, Café United, ISD – Initiative Schwarze Menschen in Deutschland, Nika Eltern-Kind-Treff, NoBorder, project.shelter, turn the corner e.V."
Was ist SYNNIKA?
"SYNNIKA ist ein experimenteller Raum für Praxis und Theorie. [...] Auch wenn die urbanen Realitäten zunehmend für Isolation und Vereinzelung stehen, werden sie gleichzeitig auf globaler Ebene immer vergleichbarer und nähern sich an. Wir sind daher interessiert Verbindungen mit Protagonist*innen aus unterschiedlichen Kontexten herzustellen und visuelle Installationen, Workshops, Diskussionen und andere Formate der Zusammenkunft auszurichten, die sich auf diese gemeinsame Umwelt beziehen."

Silke Wagner (*1968, lives in Frankfurt / M.) mostly devotes herself to political topics in her conceptual works, which she transfers into an artistic context under means of various media. Her practice cannot be fixed to a specific genre, but makes this openness of means a way of working that is typical for Wagner.
For her contribution to SYNNIKA, Silke Wagner invited the Berlin-based band "Art Critics Orchestra" (ACO) to give an online concert under the title BELLA CIAO, with 11 songs from different epochs, regions and by different musicians. ACO is a music project situated in the art world with a changing cast - currently with Andreas Schlaegel, Raimar Stange and Micz Flor. Due to the current crisis, the performance, originally planned as a live concert, can be seen and heard as a video recording on the synnika.space website.
A QR-code printed on the SYNNIKA front window and on the announcement posters enables access to the concert regardless of time and location. The title of the installation BELLA CIAO refers to a song of the same name that was first documented in 1906 and deals with the working conditions of Northern Italian rice pickers. As a hymn to the Italian Resistenza, a variant of this song became world famous after the Second World War, interpreted and republished in a multitude of variants. Recently the song again gained global attention in March 2020 during the lockdown, when people in Italy sang it from their balconies and windows towards the street.
On the SYNNIKA front window, Silke Wagner constructs the word BELLA CIAO as a typographic work. Behind it, visible from the street, screen prints are installed that convert the song titles and lyrics performed by ACO into visual motifs. The screen printing series created especially for the BELLA CIAO project is available as an edition. The proceeds will go to SYNNIKA and the Community Space to support their work in the NIKA.haus.

Silke Wagner has designed twelve silk screen prints currently on display at SYNNIKA. The posters are for sale. The revenue goes to SYNNIKA and the Community Space in the NIKA.haus to continue our public and political work in Frankfurt's Central Station district, despite the current crisis. The corona pandemic has made the use of our rooms significantly more difficult. Due to the necessary corona regulations we experienced a significant lack of income, e.g. because jury meetings to grant funds couldn't take place or because our rooms are no longer usable for many groups in our comunity.
What is the Comunity Space?
"The Community Space serves as a place to network and meet for different groups, to establish a support structure based on solidarity and to organize in Frankfurt's Main Station district. Counseling, group meetings and public offers such as events and café afternoons take place here. [...] The space is run by Afghan Refugee Movement, Bahnhofsviertel Solidarisch, Café United, ISD – Initiative of Black People in Germany, NIKA Eltern-Kind-Treff, NoBorder, project.shelter, turn the corner e.V.."
What is SYNNIKA?
"SYNNIKA is an experimental space for practice and theory. [...] As isolating as the current urban realities might appear to its inhabitants, they are at the same time globally comparable. Thus we are interested in linking up with protagonists from different contexts. We host visual interventions, workshops, discussions, meetings and other formats relating to this common environment."
The posters were produced in an edition of ten each. Editions 4 to 10 per motif can be purchased via hello@synnika.space until August 1, 2020 for EUR 80,- each (plus shipping).
